Nayyara Noor was born on 3 November 1950 in Guwahati, Assam, India. She started her singing career in the 1971s. She quickly rose to fame with her soulful voice and became one of the most popular playback singers in Pakistan.
As a child, Noor moved from India to Pakistan with her mother and siblings around 1957 or 1958. Her father, however, remained back in Assam to manage the family’s immovable properties until 1993.
