In a tragic incident in Fort Bend County, a domestic dispute took a devastating turn, claiming five lives, including a gunman and a child. On Saturday, Alrick Barrett, 46, engaged in a fatal argument with his wife, leading to a fatal shooting.
Alrick Shawn Alphanso Barrett, dropping off a child, asked to enter the house and, upon being denied, shot his wife, her mother, his 8-year-old niece, another woman, and a man.
Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan revealed that Barrett, after requesting reconciliation, turned the gun on himself.
Two other children, aged seven and thirteen, who were hiding inside the house during the shooting, made a 911 call.
The victims, all wearing pajamas, were shot in different parts of the house. Despite no prior history of violence between the couple, a previous police call on January 25, 2023, raised concerns.
As domestic violence cases surge in the Houston area, resources are available for victims.
The Houston Area Women’s Center and the Family Time Crisis Center offer 24-hour hotlines, while the National Domestic Violence Hotline and Crisis Text Line provide additional support for those in need.
